Below average temperatures for a change today, plus we will see an uptick in storms around the metro area.

In terms of chances, there is a definite focus of storminess for Southern Colorado and Plains east of the city.

For timing, the metro area has its highest chance of a storm from 1 to 5 pm. Here's a timeline for all of us. Notice how the storms start off few and far between, then merge into bigger "lines" of storms as they move east onto the Plains.

The overall risk of severe weather is marginal here today, but I will have a hail cover ready for my garden and cinch up the patio umbrella as there is that chance of hail and wind with these. Higher risks of damaging thunderstorms are on the Plains.

Although I am hopeful for a storm to give me 0.25" to 0.5" of rainfall, the odds are more like 0.1" at best for much of the Front Range. On the plains, there can be 1"+ totals by tonight.

Where do we go for the rest of the week? Here's an hourly planner showing temperatures and rain chances through Friday.

Today is the coolest of the three, and probably the stormiest too, but we do keep rain chances in for Thursday and Friday. For the time of year, a pretty "typical" weather look for the next few days.

A PEEK AT THE WEEKEND

If you're planning some outdoor time after keeping inside during last weekend's heatwave, while the temperature are better we'll have to keep an eye out for storm chances.

A quick look at temps, you can see we likely bottom out Sunday/Monday in the Denver Metro. That will likely correspond with the best storm chances. (Don't look at the end of that temp forecast if you aren't a fan of heat)

Below is a look at total precip for Saturday. There's a focus of moisture mainly in the central and southern foothills, and around Colorado Springs. And, we can't totally discount shower chances around Denver Saturday, too.

Sunday is looking a bit more robust with showers fairly widespread along the front range and over the eastern plains. Although there will likely be a few spots that miss out on what's becoming increasingly-needed moisture. (Looking at you Boulder).

We'll need to cash in on as much moisture as we can in this break from the heat... as we saw, end of the month temps look like they may throw us right back in the oven.
