We have a cold setup for the week, albeit not at all cold relative to others within the region. Denver will come to near 0° the next two mornings, but some folks will fall to 40-below-zero across the northern US.

So, when we write about a cold outlook for Denver anyone say in North Dakota has a right to be ticked at us... here is the forecast for Bismarck:

So, when you look at our forecast it hardly feels right to say we are going to be cold.

In both those forecasts from the NWS, those are actual temperatures and not wind chills. For Denver, we can combine forecast temperatures with wind chills. We drop to near 0° at times through midweek.

No, those chances are not convincing we will have much snowfall in the city. Some bands nearby, sure, but not a snowy outlook in our opinion. That's for the metro areas, but parts of the mountains and plains will have quite a snowy week. Here are snowfall totals for the next three days.

Other than Fort Collins to Cheyenne, most of the Front Range is in the low category for much snowfall. I will caution, however, that a band or two can setup much more strongly for a few of us to drop some heavier snowfall. Colorado Springs in the shadow of Pikes Peak could be one such location as has been the case many other times this winter so far. In general, not much is expected for the majority of us.

Colorado Springs:

If we broaden our scope for a moment and reiterate that our colder week is in fact not cold as compared to those east of us, we see a number of records to be set across the country.

It is quite a busy alert map for wintry weather:

Although I will personally complain that I am chilled, I shall not speak loudly about it so that my family in the Midwest will hear...
