Mountain snow into Thursday – what about along the Front Range?

Hello weather friends, we're launching into another wave of action across Colorado. Thankfully we'll have less wind this time! Let's jump right into the charts:

Our next wave of energy is already pushing onshore of California as of Wednesday evening. This system will push east-southeast across the four corners, coming as a split of two areas of energy.

The northern split will influence weather in the mountains as early as Wednesday night into Thursday morning, leading to increasing snow across the higher terrain for a good portion of the next 48 hours.

As of now, the southern split looks like it will spin down a bit too far south for big impacts across northern Colorado. However, parts of southern Colorado, especially the Sangres and Raton Mesa could see moisture from this Friday, into Saturday

This system, much like the last, won't have a ton of good cold air to work with, so it's a fast rebound this weekend and into early next week.

Below is a look at snowfall totals through the weekend. Most mountain snow will occur Wednesday night into Thursday. Meanwhile any front range snow chances lay off til later Thursday into the day Friday. For the far southern plains into New Mexico, those snow showers look to arrive Friday night.

Overall, not huge snowfall amounts for any one place. The mountains should fare pretty well with widespread 6-12"+ amounts.

The front range is a bit more of a wild card. Heavy snow looks like it's going to be hard to come by.

As for the border of New Mexico, that system could produce heavy, wet snow into the weekend, so if you have plans to head south towards Albuquerque or Santa Fe, be aware of travel troubles Friday night into Saturday!

Outside of some iffy mountain travel in the next 24-36 hours, this doesn't look like a major round of winter weather. Enjoy the weekend! It should be a good one.

Active pattern looks to continue into next week, so you'll probably be hearing from us again soon.
