Looking at the forecast through the remainder of the week, the word "unsettled" comes to mind. We'll see rain, snow, mixed precipitation, and of course sun off and on through the weekend. Here's the rather damp outlook for Denver from the NWS:

For today, the focus will be rain for a lot of us, but mountain snow will cause tough travel conditions across the higher elevations of the state, and we may have enough snow/slush to deal with south of the city. Here is a look at potential slower travel areas tonight through Wednesday morning.

Back to the Front Range, as we move into the overnight hours, some of the rain showers could turn to snow, with temperatures hovering near freezing tonight (or a degree or two below) for the urban corridor. To look at the phases, this chart illustrates that rain and snow are both possible tonight, and again later this week although the odds of snowfall increase by then.

There have been moments when some modeling has indicated a lot of snowfall from Denver south to Monument and east to near Limon. The odds of that are low, but certainly possible considering we have the water and energy to do it. We think the biggest issue with the deep snow forecasts is the lack of cold enough air and how convection (could hear thunder tonight) plays into overdoing snow in the snowfall products.

Here is a look at some possible total precipitation amounts.

Here is a look at what amount of that will be in snow.

But, what are those high-end models showing for tonight? Well, occasionally - they've been inconsistent - those outliers have shown more than six inches in isolated areas. Again, those are called outliers for a reason.

If and how much snow we are likely to see at lower elevations remains a question. Here's a timeline of the precip chances, and temperatures for Denver and then Colorado Springs.

Notice the chance for showers is lower in the Springs.

Oh, but this is just kicking off an active week's worth of weather. Expand Denver's chance timeline and see later this week.

We will be back with more on those chances once we get through tonight's activity.
